David Kauffman, Ed.D.

Founder and CEO

David Kauffman is an educational leader committed to pursuing equitable opportunity and achievement for all students through inclusive and culturally sustaining practices. He served as the Executive Director for Multilingual Education in a large Texas district, leading the improvement and expansion of Dual Language and English as a Second Language programs and supervising campus principals, the World Languages program, the International Welcome Center, Refugee Family Support Services, Translation, and Bilingual/ESL Compliance. 


David was the founding principal of a two-way dual language school and an early adopter of outdoor learning and the district's Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program. He was honored as the district Principal of the Year and the Communities in Schools "Best in Texas" Principal. The school received the John F. Ahrns Award for Environmental Education and was honored as the district's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Year.


David is a part-time Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Texas at Austin and has served as an award-winning public school teacher, school improvement coach, and educational researcher. He holds Texas certifications for Superintendent and Principal. He earned an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and master's and doctorate degrees from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

David lives in Austin with his wife, three children, nephew, five dogs, and pet pig. He enjoys hiking, live music, and reading -- and pursuing equitable educational opportunities and achievement for all!

Alexa Obregón

Consultant

Alexa Obregón focuses on designing, presenting, and supporting districts with professional learning and coaching, specifically in best practices in literacy and multilingual learners.

Alexa has worked as a bilingual classroom teacher, reading specialist, interventionist, and district level support provider. She has provided language and literacy support to districts as a State Literacy Liaison for the Texas Literacy Initiative Grant, where she supported educators in the use of research-based literacy instruction at the campus, district, and state level. She recently served as the manager of the Professional Learning Partner Guide for Rivet Education, where she was responsible for the robust evaluation of professional learning providers to ensure all educators receive the high-quality professional learning they deserve.

Alexa's passions include literacy instruction, reviewing equity in education, developing and examining systems to support bilingual, biliterate students, and delivering professional learning to support changes in teacher and student outcomes.

Alexa holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Psychology degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters of Reading Reading degree from Texas A&M University. She currently resides in Texas with her husband and 3-year-old daughter. She loves surfing, playing tennis, running, cooking, and traveling.
